Skyros Festival

This pioneering Festival is materialised nearly exclusively from young volunteers coming from Skyros and the rest of Greece. The main theme of the festival is happenings inspired from legends, myths and history. Heroes like Achilles, Neoptolemos, Odysseus, Aias and Nestor, Gods and mortals still beloved, come alive through the happenings. Parallel to that, performances take place under the responsibility and participation of the young volunteers:

The better knowing and the development of relations among the participating volunteers. Their life is organised in the basis of a cultural camp where the idea of the community is dominant. The possibility for the young volunteers to make their own decisions and face and solve the problems arising in the group, helps their personal development and deepens the relations among them.

The education of the participating volunteers. They have the opportunity to learn new skills useful even for their future professional lives.

The development of the local community.

In the future plans of the Museum is the foundation of a "European Centre for Voluntarism". This will be a centre promoting the European idea and the idea of voluntarism through conventions, international meetings, creation of Youth Networks etc. Towards this direction, an application has already been given to the Greek Secretariat for Youth. The programs will be materialised with the aid of the EU, (Youth for Europe, European Voluntary Service etc.) and the Greek Secretariat for Youth.

In 1997, the Museum with the aid of the Greek Secretariat for Youth created the "Youth Cultural Network" and it also has its secretariat. This is a Network of Cultural Organisations from all over Greece which are active in cultural programs for young people.
